Off to Manchester for a day or two – so don’t flame my comments!

QBasic & cP E-Mail

I’ve decided to take the plunge and have a play with QBasic in order to improve my general problem-solving and programming logic skills. Although it isn’t like me to use a Microsoft product when there are good GNU alternatives, I’m only doing so because of the immensely portable IDE, so that I can use it at school. There are also a heck of a lot of tutorials on this particular dialect, http://www.qbasic.com/ (needs www, doesn’t always work without) being a very good example. So I’m plodding away, learning, and am considering writing a text-based game, the idea being that I can test my skills to the limit.

My overall aim of this is to make my general abilities greater, rather than to learn QBasic. By using this I will be able learn other languages that I actually want to use more efficiently. And maybe CityScape will finally get finished! Oh, and you can now get Microsoft QBasic for free – just Google for OldDos.exe. You can’t distribute it, but ’cause it’s free you can keep it for internal use with virtually no restrictions.

I’ve moved xyrael.net from an seperate account on the server to a cPanel addon domain on my main account, ~sean. This is to make things far easier to keep track of. Also, using Horde’s excellent cP functionality, I can tap into any accounts on either of these domains using IMAP or IMP (Horde module). The main point of this is quite simple to check my father’s and sister’s e-mail, because they never do.

Also, the spam is starting to filter through – I shouldn’t post my address so publically :( Spam Assasin helps, but it’s not perfect…

Dream… and more…

I had a funny dream the night before last. Because of the school being rebuilt soon, I often have dreams about new buildings, but this one was particularly strange. It was underground… wait for it… on the moon. To get around, you had to use these cool lifts. I needed to go down to level one in order to go to my english lesson, so got in the lift. The buttons lit up – and there was a joystick! I had to pilot the craft across the surface of the moon, through tunnels, and finally into the new floor. When I got there, I discovered that only a third of the class had made it because of all the dangers! Then, I got into another lift which had half of it open. And I wasn’t controlling. The boy who was kept stopping it and swinging dangeriously in the shaft so he could climb up and talk to his friends who were in another lift. I was holding on for dear life. We finally reached our destination, and I can’t remember any more beyond that point.

The Iraq War Cost Counter on xyrael.net is really scary, I just can’t get over how fast it is going up! I really don’t see why they can’t just stop the war and be happy. Humph.

I’ve added a new under construction page to my skeleton directory – visit heathergladney.org for an example. You can also see my new suspended page at silentflame.com/suspended.page – arn’t they nice? It’s my new subpage thing, possibly good for error pages. I might add these to skeleton… hmm…
