Stuff…

Looks like my webspace is tentively working, although I’m really sick of it deciding that the files in it don’t belong to me anymore. Honestly, it really makes no sense. I’d love to just terminate it and bring it back up afresh, but I don’t think it’d do any good to have silentflame.com down for any length of time. On that note, I’ve been doing some analytical work on this. Since I don’t have enough disc space to keep statistics for the site permenantly, I’m getting Google to do it instead. Interestingly, about 15% of visits are coming from lillyinblack and 4rsk – thanks guys! That is the true power of backlinking.
Another rough 15% is coming straight from Google Search, which is interesting because I’m surprised that so many people are coming from that location. However, my number of hits are so low that it might well just be me testing if the site is working! Also, about 85% of folk have cable Internet access, which is rather surprising because I thought that more would be on ADSL, which is the one I’m forced to use at my mother’s house. I’ve also got tracking on xyrael.net, which shpws that I get a lot of traffic from Wikipedia and the IBDoF, as well as Kvetch. Facinating! I know I’ve blahed on about this for way too long, but ah well…

I’ve been sitting on irc a lot recently. #wikimedia is a nice channel and there are a lot of regulars who you can see time after time, which is a good thing. I’ve also joined Esperanza on Wikipedia; an organisation working to promote the sense of community on the site – if it’ll help get more contributions then I’m certainly not complaining.

Right, well, time to sign back on to IRC. I wonder if anything has happened in my absence… usenet next!

Too Many Things in Online Life

Right. I’m going to sort this. From this point forword, I will get through the tasks that I volunteer for on the Internet in order to make myself more productive. Recently, I’ve been falling behind on several, and I want this to stop happening. So it’s time for a major crackdown – ready? These are in prioritised order.

  1. Confirm that SilentFlame is still alive.
  2. Connect to gaim and IRC networks.
  3. Clear out messy inbox.
  4. Work on Heather’s website.
  5. IBDoF Development
  6. IBDoF Data Editing
  7. Wikipedia Maintenance
  8. Write novel.
  9. Other, as thought of.

Will add more when I think of them. Cya.

Er, he… apologies for stuff being offline

Right, well… rather a lot has happened! I’m really sorry for my site being offline for so long, because for most of that time I really couldn’t be bothered to go and try and fix it when it seemed to me that it wasn’t really worth it, but eventually it looks like everything has managed to sort itself out. I’m not 100% sure of all the things that I’ve done, so I’ve resolved to attempt to remember as many as I can. Here we go.

Wikipedia has really got me hooked for the past week. I’m absolutely obsessed! I’ve been patrolling new pages, working on several projects and am even starting one of my own about raising awareness in the community. My new userpage is rather nice, which I took and modified off someone elses. Although I don’t have a huge number of edits, I may apply for adminship near in the future so that my range of activities of broadened. Exciting stuff. I’ve also been spending a lot of time on IRC, specifically #wikimedia, where I’ve been enjoying the strange people who pass through, doing their various things as they will. I often wonder how long things like that will last, from what appears from my perpective to be the golden age of the Internet. Anyway, the disadvantage of all this is that I’ve been spending considerably less time on the IBDoF, which is a shame. I need to get posting, DEing and developing a lot more!

It’s been Annie’s birthday this week, and I was given a book on the British legal system, which was an excellent choice.

Grrr, why can’t I write more?
